Guidance and Counselling is a very important part of activities in educational institutions all over the world, but the literature on the subject in India is very scanty. In India, an attempt has been made to full fill this need in the wake of changing pattern of socio economic, socio educational and socio cultural systems which are forming complex shop owing to advancement in science and technology and changing nature of human behaviour and a person’s adjustment with his family, community and society.
Guidance and Counselling is an essential aspect of pupil’s education. Good education of a pupil is essentially a matter of proper guidance and effective counselling. Education is viewed as the total development of a student’s personality. Education without guidance and counselling cannot achieve this objective satisfactorily. Human growth and development are multidimensional and various aspects of these cannot be separated from one another in the process of development. The focus in teaching learning ought to be the development of total personality of a pupil. It does not mean only intellectual development and inculcation of knowledge through the teaching of “subject matter”. For that the real subject matter of the teacher has to be the development and adjustment of the pupil. Every teacher therefore has to be primarily a counsellor, and essentially a guiding spirit. |
